where song began
Performed more than 100 times in sold out halls across Australia and internationally, Where Song Began is a celebration of songbirds. The 50-minute program includes music spanning 300 years, from Johann Heinrich Schmelzer and J.S. Bach to Arvo Pärt and new commissions, enhanced by a film of evocative visual projections and an immersive soundscape.
The Bowerbird Collective makes art for nature. Their work has received international acclaim, and their ARIA-nominated albums of threatened bird and frog calls, 'Songs of Disappearance', reached the top of the ARIA Album Charts ahead of Adele, ABBA and Ed Sheeran. Violinist Simone Slattery was a 2019 Churchill Fellow, received a PhD in Music Performance from the University of Adelaide and performs regularly with Australia's finest ensembles. Cellist Anthony Albrecht was Australia's first graduate of The Juilliard School's Historical Performance program and enjoys an international performance career. Holy Trinity, Maldon Concerts Presents: Consortium
Consortium unites a band of Australia’s finest viol players to explore the beauty of the traditional repertoire for viol consort alongside exciting new music. They will be performing 'The English Consort' including works by Ferrabosco, Jenkins, Coperario, Robert Johnson and Australian composer Brooke Green.
Holy Trinity, Maldon Concerts
The concerts were inspired by the realisation that, while Maldon has plenty of cultural events, there is no regular classical music program. It occurred to us that the beautiful and historic Holy Trinity, Maldon would be the ideal venue for such concerts. We were fortunate to receive a partnership grant from Community Bank, Maldon and District to help cover the costs. Our hope is that the 'Holy Trinity, Music Concerts' become a regular fixture on the Maldon cultural calendar, and not only satisfy classical music lovers, but also provide an opportunity for people to engage with this style of music live for the first time.
There will be three concerts spread over the remainder of the year. The groups are all of a professional standard and have not played in Maldon before.
The groups are:
5th of August - Klemantyne Ensemble - Ballarat
9th of September - Consortium - Melbourne
11th of November - Bowerbird Collective - Adelaide
Tea and coffee will be offered after each concert.
Each concert begins at 2:30.
$30 a concert ticket or $80 for a program ticket. Kids attend free.
